Thanks so much for your post; I appreciate the time you took to explain something that people take for granted is common knowledge. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes - at least that's what it feels like to me , together with all the jargon and posts about hardforks and the pros and cons going back and forth - and it's all very overwhelming.
