This was a week ago - since then, mostly rain, much cooler and not much sun. But it was nice while it lasted.
A nice warm day in my neighborhood of Floridsdorf - on the Alte Donau (Old Danube), which is a separate side arm of the Danube, connected underground to the river, so the water is slow moving and much warmer than the main river, which is rather muddy/greyish brown, very wide and fast flowing. But the Old Danube is a recreational paradise, and indeed blue, as the old sentimental songs claim about the Danube.
view of the north shore of the upper Old Danube, the anchorage there is Seepferdchen, they used to lend boats and had a restaurant, but are now closed, a victim of the Corona Lockdowns, only leasing out anchor spots to boat owners now.
West of the Alte Donau is the Wasserpark, separated by a dam and bridges of the S-Bahn and U-Bahn. On the far end, there is a bird sanctuary for herons.
walking toward Birner's Eisdiele (ice cream shop)
Looking eastward, from Birnersteig just past the ice cream shop and on my way to the other shore where the recreation area is and people went swimming.
this is the view from the area near the La Crêperie restaurant
my first goal for the walk was to get some ice cream!
having my ice cream and a short rest by the shore
Nearby the La Crêperie, a nice French restaurant, is getting ready for opening soon.
in spite of this nice day, with 28°C and sunshine, it is not overly crowded
people enjoying a game of beach volley ball .....
.... or just chilling with their music. These guys were not Austrians, they spoke excellent American English.
Alltogether it was a enjoyable afternoon - more so as we all knew the weatherforecast for the next while was for cooler temperatures and rain.
