You don't say what type of color. I paint with acrylics, and I also hate to waste left over color. I have some paintings set aside where I use left over colors for glazing backgrounds. If much is left over, I store it in those little plastic film roll containers (the ones used for analog film). Experimental applications are fun. I could see this being combined with collage.
