Such a journey, as in the above quote can take place in an elevator, as for example Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator:

So the other day I took the elevator at my apartment building to the ground floor. I must have pushed the wrong button because where it took me is hard to describe. I decided to take a selfie to commemorate the moment.
