It's official, Google Docs and Microsoft Office Word are officially cooked. Well not quite, they're safe as long as they start implementing killer AI tools and features into their word processing softwares.

The reason I say this is because OpenAI, the current Boss of AI service just dropped a new AI tool called ChatGPT Canvas, and I'm thinking that might give Google Docs some serious competition right now.

Well at least if OpenAI is able to keep Google on their toes, the rest of the world will end up having great products from all the tech companies thanks to competition among them.

Now, I already know what you might be thinking right now “what!!! another AI tool again?” Yes it seems as if OpenAI could have implemented all of that into their chatgpt but there's good reasons why that had to create a whole new tool for word processing.

Chatgpt Canvas isn't just a new way to chat with AI, you get a full-blown workspace when you use this tool. The purpose of the tool is almost no different from other words processing tools but what sets it apart is that it's from OpenAI so you already know there's going to be some badass AI features which will allow us create documents better than ever before.

Just imagine working on a long document, code project, or even an article and instead of endlessly scrolling through chats, hoping to find that one edit you need to make, Canvas lets you tweak everything right there in the editor. I remember writing a document and I had to proof read a million times just to make sure AI got it just right. But with Chatgpt Canvas, all this work or burden can be taken of my shoulders.

It's not just an assist tool in a word processing application but it'll be like you having a co-worker who doesn’t mind rewriting a paragraph 15 times until it sounds perfect. Although it makes me wonder if that's ideal for school projects because those could easily be flagged as AI generated or AI assisted and the academic board is against that. I would need more research and hopefully when I gain access to it, I'll do some tests to see how good of a tool this is.

When I first saw a few YouTube videos of the tool, it blew me away. In a demo, the AI pulled in live data and reworked sections of an article instantly. And if you’re someone who loves nit-picking through text (and yes I'm guilty of this too, heheh), you can highlight chunks and have the AI focus on those parts, like a smarter, quicker Google Docs comment feature.

Here's a video of the review there are a lot of videos about it on YouTube right now

It's not all robots doing this for you because of that's the case well, you might as well call your entire work AI generated content. What OpenAI did was to have to tool trained to provide critiques, not just make changes. The editor actually understands the context of what you're writing.

I'm hoping to see a release of this and I hope they won't make it paid like almost all their products right now.
