Money can buy many things, but money cannot buy everything you know. Money cannot buy character or love.
I have lived more than 40 years in this life, and I can firmly say that money changes people.
I remember seeing one of my colleagues pass me and greet me. In fact, he asked about my wellbeing as well as my kids. The next thing I saw was him driving away despite knowing that we were heading to the same location.
Oh! That one is still small. There was a friend of mine who was into politics, and he said he could help me with a job for my livelihood. He promised and promised, not until his inferior in his organization connected me to a paying job. He became perplexed when he one day saw me in that same organization.
However, one can't just conclude like that. There are certain people who become more cheerful after they have attained wealth. I am not saying that they changed because of the wealth, but it shows that they were nice generally.
I can remember with my uncle back in those days. He had money, and many came to him for assistance. He told us that he could never fulfill all people's desires, but what he could guarantee was that he could also give just to assist.
I hope you understand. He had money, but he knew that it was limited. If your challenge—in terms of money, advice, or something within which he could give without affecting other things—his family, himself, or his home, he gives.
Now, I can't consider that I have attained wealth, but out of the little I have, I give. In my house, I have vegetables, pepper, yam, etc. My neighbours would come to me, inquiring that I give them one or two things. Of course, I give to them, but not at the expense of my own convenience.
There was a day that I allowed my neighbour to take a little from my farm—just a little. However, my neighbour took every single pepper for herself to the extent that I could not see anything. It was later that I heard that she went to sell it at the market. I hope a message is being passed here.
If I decide not to give her again, it would look like I have a lot yet I choose to be cruel.
Sometimes wealthy people do not choose to be cruel or extremely greedy. It is the circumstances that surround them that make them so.
True wealth sees through all that. True wealth is not greed. It is how you choose to respond to every situation life throws at someone. It is peace amidst chaos. Love amidst difficulty. Despite our active choices, one chooses to give. One chooses to help. Wealth changes every one and you know this is not a lie.
