Between witnesses, there is the underlying feeling or rather question if the witness voting system is fair. By design, the system favors established witnesses and makes it difficult for newcomers.

From a subjective point of view, this might sound unfair, but it's actually the same principle that is being found in the real world.

Newcomers have to prove themselves.
Oldtimers have already made a reputation for themselves.

If a newcomer is putting in the work and steadily bringing value to Steem, then this will be recognized.
And if an oldtimer is slacking or falling behind, then this will also be recognized eventually.

These principles might not always be completely fair to the individual, but they work and most importantly: they make sure that the blockchain is governed & secured by witnesses who have proven themselves.

And I've experienced this just today.

The recent blockchain freeze was solved by Steemit Inc. and multiple witnesses but most importantly by community developer & witness abit@abit who committed (submitted) some very important fixes.

And after people learned of this heroic act, many votes started coming in for abit@abit - including mine and from big influencers like blocktrades@blocktrades and clayop@clayop.

Which resulted in abit@abit being catapulted into a well deserved TOP 20 spot.

While abit@abit, has been a witness for a very long time, starting on Bitshares (even being a core-dev there) the action spoke louder than words and the community reacted, which showed me that the voting system works.

So with that said:

Keep on providing value, my fellow witnesses. It will be recognized eventually.
