This term literally means "effect of color", and is used in both music and painting.
In the first, chromatism is the technique that establishes as necessary the use of the intermediate notes of the scale, or semitones that, in diatonic music, remain outside the normative configuration.
The chromatism affects the melody, and when introduced into the chords, gives rise to the so-called "altered", important as expressive effects.
In painting, it is the preponderant crop of color, a concrete, turgid, expressive element of mass and stain that opposes drawing, which is an abstract, pure, analytical and linear resource.
