The dislike button is a semi-main staple in social media today. We see it most prominently on a site called YouTube. YouTube features this button for people who, well, dislike the video they just watched. This is to show creators what content people don’t enjoy so they know what their audience enjoys. The dislike button has started to stray away from the point that it was originally intended for though. Now it seems that it has turned into a way for people to ‘troll’ or ‘make fun’ of someone just for who they are.
Most people who don’t like a video just don’t watch it, or just leave the video. Creators have also seemed to just ignore the dislike button due to people just clicking it either by accident (Because of it’s close proximity to the like button) or just to be mean to the creator. If someone wants to see what videos are getting the most attention, they can just turn to the view count or the like button. If someone does like a video then they will hit the like button to show they they do enjoy it.
So in the end, they dislike button just seems like a form or slight bullying to some people. I can bet that you reading this at some point have made something on something like YouTube and within a few days got a dislike and it made you feel bad thinking that someone out there doesn’t like your work. So I can truly say in my opinion, that the dislike button is a worthless, mean tool that people use to hurt others feelings to make them feel like someone dislikes their work completely. But on the other hand, people may actually dislike your work. But as I said before, they just wouldn’t watch you or do anything to you if that is the reason.
