If you haven't been using the Steemit beta site, I highly recommend you do and take advantage of the new communities features.
A few new changes came out today that make the user experience a little nicer. As communities are implemented via Hivemind, no hard fork is needed to make changes. This allows for much more rapid development and more frequent updates.
Here you can see all the communities you are part of, you can also use this to view the communities are users are part of.
Notifications have been cleaned up and are now showing the avatar of the user. There are also some icons that represent the type of notification.
This is a feature I really have been wanting since communities was announced. You can now see who owns a community from the community listing page.
While these are not ground breaking changes, they are steps in the right direction. I expect more updates will be coming soon as communities continues to be polished.
If you have feedback on communities, please make a post about it and post it in the Community Feedback community.
