This is another post in the spirit of the STEMGeek's Hackathon.
The prize pool for the Hackathon is over 12,000 Hive right now.
A few days ago I introduced you to my favorite text editor VS Code and gave some reasons why you should give it a try if you don't already use it.
I made a post yesterday talking about the five core extensions I use with VS Code.
I'm going to cover some of my favorite themes for VS Code. While themes are more fluff, they do play a big role in productivity by making code easier to read and understand. A good theme can help your productivity a lot more than you think. It also gives you a little personal feeling about your environment you spend a lot of time in.
For all themes, I am going to use the same Python file from the Jussi repo to demonstrate each theme.
This is a theme I recently found and started using. It is developed by Sarah Drasner, one of the core Vue team members. I'm still giving it a test run myself but so far I really like it. One thing I am very critical about in themes is how comments are displayed, they need to be readable but they should also fade from view when not focused.
Another theme I ran for a while was Atom One Dark, I find it has very good visibility but the color scheme is not quite what I was looking for. That being said, it is a very popular theme and what I don't particularly like, others may love.
Another theme that has good visibility, has some nice contract and style. Not my favorite theme these days, but it is a good one.
This is a common theme that is included with most good text editors. I used it for a long time before switching to downloadable themes.
Another built-in theme to most editors and one I played around with for a while in my earlier days.
Going back to downloadable themes, Dracula is a fun theme that I will sometimes use for a change of scenery.
This theme is a bit wild and takes some getting used to. If you like purple like I do, it's a lot of fun and surprisingly pleasing to read.
Check out the extension marketplace and find a theme that you like if you don't like any of the above. It is only a couple of mouse clicks to change themes and experience different flavors.
