I am a huge fan of personal power production for that instance when the grid goes down. It’s about to be one of my main investments, and was for the whole time I was living the vanlife and living solely on solar power, well 12V because the van did some charging when running too.
But now I am on the homestead I am saving up for a big solar/wind combo grid tie setup. This way I get the best of both worlds. I have solar generators too which is very helpful when the power goes out too.
Geothermal on city size scales would be great to see though. Not used nearly enough.
