It feels great being home for the first time since Hurricane Irma ran me out of the Florida Keys back in 2017. Not the way at all I wanted to come back, but hey, at least I am here. It's extremely surreal though in many ways. A good bit has changed around here since the storm, but much of it is still good ole Marathon. Now I have only been here at, the time of writing less than 12 hours, but I automatically started feeling like me again.
I am going to help my mom with an art show on Ramrod Key at a spot called Boondocks, so that will be fun and can hopefully take our minds off of things for a bit. I have already started this morning with a sunrise walk to the end of the ole street to Boot Key Harbor and watched the sun start to come up over the sailboats. Then the walk back to the house showed me that we are living next to a "Dirty Hooker", lol. If you look at the pictures, it's the name of a boat, lol, not calling anyone a dirty hooker, lol, although, this is the keys and they are around, lol.
But I am extremely excited to see the changes that my parents have done to the house after the storm. It's really awesome to see everything they have done. Unfortunately, they had just gotten down here from our other family property in Alabama when my dad went down, so they haven't had a chance to do anything other than be in a hospital.
If you have been following my posts, you know my dad was recently diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, which the worst of it had spread to his spine. This caused him to go paralyzed from the waist down after they got here and he was airlifted to Miami where he underwent emergency surgery. Well, that went so well that he has full feeling and motor function in his legs! I could get gross too, but hey, he is pooping on his own too which is huge, considering even the surgeon was not optimistic about him NOT being paralyzed... So I'll take all the wins! But, the recovery road is going to be long. He will be going from the hospital, when the time comes for his release, directly to a rehab center as he will need living assistance and daily physical therapy, and probably occupational therapy.
We have overall been blown away at the care he has been receiving in the hospital in Miami and the teams that have been involved. Well, security sucks, they will not give us his iPhone and Apple Watch that he came with, which I went a bit overboard with last night, and kinda made an ass of myself, but hey I am running on fumes and a hair trigger right now, and haven't had a chance to really deal with anything, so yeah, I went off. But, it's all good.
Anyway, this whole prayer and positive thinking is working, so keep it up!
Until next time my friends...
