Greetings everyone,
So over the last few weeks we were seeing somewhat of a domination of Light and deception over the meta. Death and War were still played quite often and can be effective, and nature took off more last week seeing that it does pretty well against light. However, the god that has been the most stable over the last period of time is magic. It was still effective throughout the last couple of weeks and several decks existed that can get you a decent amount of wins.
Mostly control magic decks were the most decks played for being somewhat consistent. You might also find aggro magic but it was very few maybe for the lack of cards required and also because aggro light can destroy it very fast. Many versions of control magic existed and many cards were swapped or added among each week.
For the last 2 weeks I have not played magic like I used to do so this week I decided to try again with a new control magic deck that I added a few new cards and made it significantly different that the last one I used to play. So I wanted to share this deck with you which I think should do well.
The deck
So its a cheap control ramp magic deck, with a lot of differences from my last control deck that I used to always play. Those new changes were made mainly because they serve well in the current meta and have amazing use in the scenarios we mostly face against the decks mostly used nowadays. Now there might be some cards that can be out of reach and you do not feel like buying them because they are somewhat expensive, but we will also put an alternative for each one of them. Let us first talk about the basic new additions to this deck:
New Basic additions
β
These cards were newly added to this deck simply for being useful quite well in this meta and make good additions to it:
Safeguard Incantation
This card is used quite often is magic decks. It is a good card to draw and get to the card you need at a certain stage of the game as well as a bot of protection from damage which can help stall the game a bit more till you get to the point you want.
Academy Apprentice
With the big buffs that exists in this meta currently and the high HP hidden creatures, this card is excellent and makes a great combo with the AoE spells that you have in the deck. Especially with the echo it can help clear board a lot of times.
Guild Enforcer
This card serves an excellent protection against aggro decks. At 5 mana which is not very far, it can help cause a lot of problems for aggro decks and can be a great protection for your god in most scenarios so I decided to add it.
Leyhoard Hatchling
Since I saw a lot of people using this one even in control decks, I decided to add it. I noticed that most of the times you will be able to play it for 4 mana maybe which is very good for 4 damage and a 3/3 creature on board. Mostly the 4 damage is excellent because you will not need more at this mana stage. And it can be a good one to do a bit of face damage if needed which is 8 combined!
Key additions and sub cards
β
Now some new cards were added for specific use in some scenarios that you might face sometimes, and they make a great addition to the deck as well. Now I will be also putting sub cards that you can switch these for in case you can not afford to add them since they are a bit expensive on average.
Mana Toad
I added this card back to get some ramping potential in this deck once again. Now the sub for this card is actually better than this one and it should be the first pick in this deck however I could not buy it at the moment so if you can surely you would want to use this one:
Crystaltech Scholar
Unbound Flames
This card is an amazing board clear that I always wondered if I should add, but now I was sure it should be in this deck especially because of the wide board potential in the current meta especially for light decks. Now if this card is out of your reach the Inferno would be the right substitution for it:
Pallas' Incantation
Now to me this card was added specifically because of it's secondary effect which is the obliterate for both voids. This card is the key to have a chance of winning against those annoying Anubian Deck and also can counter control Light decks! I added one copy of it only since it has very specific use case. Now in case can not afford to buy it, the best sub for it, although it will take away a lot of value from the value IMO would be the Ratify.
Now this would be an even better option to get rid of strong, annoying creatures, but it would put back the threat of Anubian and Control Light decks.
Final Thoughts
β
Now what I am expecting this week with this deck, is hopefully somewhere around 10 to 12 wins which is pretty good for me especially since I have been struggling for the past couple of weeks during the first 18 games and getting around 8 wins. The deck should be solid and perform well against a lot of famous decks currently so hopefully it goes well.
I am feeling a bit more confident about it because of the addition of the new card Pallas' Incantation which should help a lot with annoying decks that I used to automatically lose against once I face them. So I would definitely recommend you to also try your luck with this deck for this week if you are a magic god fan.
That was it for this post, I hope you like this deck make sure to try it out and hopefully it will get you your desired wins and if it did make sure to drop a follow and leave a comment because I would love to know that I helped someone out, it makes me want to keep doing more of such decks! And good luck to everyone in their weekend rank games wish you the best and I will see you on the next one!
Mad Love, Peace out <3
