Hello everyone,

So for the last 2 weeks, I have been struggling a little bit with the game, roaming around in between solar gold and ethereal diamond getting so close to mythic and barely getting back down and repeating diamond all over again. I tried switching in between many decks: Zombie death, aggro light as well as aggro nature but all my efforts were not working.

Now we all know the deck that is working most now is aggro war, however I do not have the cards to make a decent deck of this and I did not want to buy them as well since I am saving up. So I decided to have a go at Control Deception and boy that went so well!

So I will be sharing my deck in this post as well as why I chose control deception at the end and seeing what makes it pretty decent at the moment:

The Deck

Let us first start by sharing my deck that I used last couple of days. It is very similar to the one I posted about a while back with some improvements to it:

This deck costs around 40$ which is pretty decent and did really well for me! Let's check out the new cards I added in it that I did not use before:

Cards added

There were 2 new cards in this deck and these cards are:

Orfeo, Champion of Deception

Really a great addition for the deck I would say! It is very valuable and useful early or late game to clear certain annoying creatures for you to help you either survive or build board if you can! Really a good decision to add it if you own it!

Unexpected Gift

Now I decided to add this becuse you often need a little bit of healing to survive a little bit more, and this small tick can be a match saver! In addition to that this card can be a menace if played early game since your opponent might draw it too which will be very annoying for him as well! Definitely a nice card to have a copy of.

Why Control Deception?

Now why did I chose to go all in on control deception after trying so many decks? To answer that let us first take a look at my latest 23 matches:

Latest 23 games

As we can see here, the most faced matchups were either War or Nature, and that is the main reason why I chose to go for deception. I noticed I was facing a lot of these matchups and I know deception does pretty good against them so I decided to go for it. Now why does deception does good and how should you play those matchups? Let us see:

Against Aggro War

Now the main thing to focus on here is the early game survival. Aggro War is all about early game damage and chunking. So the best strategy to apply here is to try and have either strength steal creatures early game in your hand along with control spells. Or instead of control spells have strong early game clearing creatures. Those are examples of good starting hands:

These are good for early games clearances as well as rendering his creatures pretty useless!

hand 2.png

This combinations can be used to use his creatures to kill his creatures too! As well as good clear early on for strong creatures like Feral Shapeshifter for example!

Against Aggro Nature

Deception does exceptionally well against nature too! Since it is a little bit slower than war! A lot of early game hands can be pretty good against it but here is an example of a good one:

Just like war, it is important to have a good clearance early on for nature. Now in this case though, getting rapture dance later on is excellent since nature will go wide most of the times and rapture can pretty much end the game there!

Against War and Control Nature

Now both these matchups are a bit tougher and trickier. The key here is to try and steal the right cards and using your good cards in their perfect timing and place to keep a good hand for late game too! You would want to start with good early game creatures first, and then get the late game cards later. So a good hand would be something like this:

Final Thoughts

This deck was very solid and has been doing really good for me for the last 23 games even in my games in mythic! I got a really good win rate on it and it is possible to win in many matchups but of course some of them can be a bit more difficult than others! But to anyone trying to get back to mythic I definitely recommend trying it out!

On top of that I must say deception is one of the most fun gods to play for the amount of variety in plays and cards possible for it! I had tons of fun trying this deck out and it might be my deck for this weekend ranked event!

That was it for this one, hope you liked the deck, be sure to try it out and let me know how it goes other than that I wish every one the best of luck on their weekend games and I will be seeing you on the next one!

Mad Love, Peace out <3
