Greetings everyone,
This week was a bit tough for me to decided what to use for the weekend event ranked games. Card draw magic is a bit less efficient after the nerfs, nature is good but I am still missing some important cards, light was also decent but still did not acquire many of the new cards.
I was deciding between either magic or death, but seeing a lot of relic removals this week I decided to go back to my old ramp magic.
However, it will not be the same deck of course I made some improvements on it from the past patch changes that happened since it has been a while since I used ramp. And I got to say those improvement made a huge difference and I was able to snatch 15 wins. So without further ado let's see what is the deck and what were the changes applied, but before that let's check the results of the deck:
Matchups Breakdown
| Matchups | Wins/Matches | Win rate |
|---|---|---|
| Light | 2/3 | |
| Nature | 4/5 | |
| Magic | 3/4 | |
| Death | 1/3 | |
| War | 3/5 | |
| Deception | 2/3 | |
| Overall | 15/23 | 65.2% |
My first two games were actually with a different deck that I lost 2 in a row with, so it was then that I decided to switch back to ramp and I was able to snatch 15/23 games this week which is pretty good for me!
The deck did pretty well against all gods except for death it was very difficult to deal with the necroscepters without a relic removal and most of the times there was none in the sanctum as well! Other matches were either me surviving the early game well and then the opponent losing hope because he has an aggro deck, or just taking things slow and winning the late game!
The deck
So as we can see, still the same old ramp magic. For anyone new to the game, ramp is all about using spells like Sip of Elixir or creatures to unlock mana crystals and get ahead of your opponent.
You also use your spells to survive until late game and from there dominate the game with your late game creatures and your mana advantage.
So the deck was pretty similar to my previous one that I posted before but I made some really good changes and additions to it that made it a lot better. So let us see what cards did I add to this one and why.
New Cards Added
City Planner
This card was a very good addition to the deck. Even before and after the changes it is very nice to put in any late game decks. The protection it provides with the 2 frontline it summons, and the threat it does also being a 7/7 creature is very nice for late game. You get more of a chance to smack face with it more than playing on naked strong creature who can be dealt with with many spells. I am definitely planning on buying a second copy but for some reason token trove was buggy when I wanted to.
Blizzard Bolt
Just another similar copy to Starshard Bolt and Tracking Bolt added to the deck to help survive the early game. I added only one copy of it not to have too many early game spells, but this helps a lot against aggro decks and can give a good cheap option early game to get rid of certain creatures. Also it can serve as a face damage finisher in case at any point you might need some damage to win a game, happened once or twice with me with it!
Lightning Talisman
This card is a beast after the rework! It can by itself clear a board if placed at an annoying time, it also can provide a lot of pressure on the enemy not to flood the board or play a lot of creatures until he gets rid of its durability which will take minimum 3 turns. It can insanely help to survive the early game and get to 5 6 mana spot with the least harm done. You can also use your god power on yourself if needed to use its damage to finish off certain creatures!
Cards I am planning to replace
There are a few cards that can be replaced for a better alternative in the deck either because they became weaker after the nerfs, or just because I have better card alternative or just way too many of the same card purpose in the deck and these are:
Crystal Rain
Its just that after the nerf again, it became even more worst. At 4 mana it was too good, but now at 5 and no foresee it became a lot weaker. On top of that a better alternative that exists in the deck is Shaped Blast since I run 2 of them I do not need this one. Maybe I can keep only one copy for extra board clear though.
Mana Toad
I know this deck is called ramp because you have to open mana crystal and get ahead of your opponent on mana, but having 2 of those can at early stages help the opponent dominate the board even more or get damage to your face because it slows things a lot for you. So 1 copy is enough of it and it can be replaced with a certain spell to help more survive the early game or board clearing. Along with 2 Sip of Elixir it should be good enough to Ramp up!
Cyclops Defender
This card is still a decent card for the 7 mana late game spot, however, with the city planner now in play, I would prefer to replace it with another one because it provides a lot more protection than having 1 naked creature on board as I mentioned before. 2 frontlines with 8 HP and a 7/7 creature is better now than having a 10 HP on naked on board because there are several ways to deal with it. So probably when I can buy a city planner I will replace this card with it!
Final Thoughts
Ramp magic has been the go to deck for me for a while when I become desperate and I want to get more wins, first of all maybe because I got used to playing it and what cards to mulligan against each god, but also I usually get decent draws most of the times since the spells are many in it.
It might be too slow and late game of a deck but I got used to playing late game and I felt like it suits me more than very fast, aggressive face smack decks because I am not very good at piloting them. So I was very glad to be able to get those 15 wins even after the magic received hard nerfs it was mainly for the Card draw decks and not a lot for the ramp ones!
So definitely do try out this deck and ramp magic in general it is a very fun archetype I love it very much, even if it is slow, you usually keep thinking a lot about what to do so you will entertained most of the times except against a mirror matchup where you will both be pressing end turns for eternity :p
That was it for this post, hopefully you liked the deck, go ahead and give it a try it is very cheap to build and can bring decent amount of wins! Hope everyone had a great weekend ranked event and I will see you on the next one!
Mad Love, Peace out <3
