Hello everyone,
I am now back to Gods Unchained after 1 week and a half of taking a break not because I wanted to, but because my laptop was broken and needed to be fixed and it took a while to get it back in shape, but now I am back and more excited than ever to get back at it again!
Now even though I was not playing the game, I was keeping myself updated to the meta and everything, watching videos and streams, and I was watching how annoying were Anubians as well as the new version deck of Dralamar, and I got to say I was a bit glad I was not part of it XD.
Now I was deciding what am I going to play in this weekend event, and I decided since I am not very familiar with the current meta decks and cards much, to stick with my classic magic deck while also adding to it some stuff that I think might be very helpful. Now I understand that this meta is full of aggro decks, but I think this deck will hold on just well against them and I will show why when I breakdown the deck.
So without further talking, let's first of all take a look at the deck:
The Deck
So as always it is a classic control magic deck similar to the ones I always use. I am a fan of such free to play control magic because I enjoy playing control, I don't know the slow pace of the game seems to be enjoying to me :p. And I like to use free to play decks and add some cards that I was lucky to draw to improve on them!
Now you might that this deck might suffer because of the aggro meta played at the moment, and you might be right, however I think it would do well for the following reasons:
Why would it do good?
Now the first reason that I think this deck can survive aggro decks, is the insane early game clearing potential existing in these two cards:
These cards alongside other spells of course, provide insane early game protection and should get you to 5 mana with as minimal damage as possible provided that the opponent does not have relic removal!
The second reason I think this deck will do good against aggro decks is because of the wide board damage capability at 5 mana provided from this amazing cards:
I always try to mullingan this cards especially against deception and nature, alongside some other spells to help, and it always gives great value and help you reach the 6 mana spot as safe as possible if the RNG gods were on your side!
Now in case of war aggro decks with relics that are being used at the moment, I think it might struggle against them because of the potential they have to one shot the opponent god in 1 turn, as well as the threat from their god power. Now my best bet against such decks would be to drop my frontlines as soon as possible and protect them with spells to avoid getting 1 tapped in 1 single turn out of nowhere.
These are the cards I would be looking to drop as soon as possible against war to avoid sudden face damage.
Special use cards
Now there are some cards that seems like they do no belong in this deck, but I decided to add them a special purpose because they might be of great use in certain scenarios, so let's take a look at them:
Alastrina, Prime Refractor
Now I remember using this card before it got nerfed, and it use to serve me well in many cases. I used to mainly use it as a 5 mana card at higher mana spots when I had at least 2 Helian elites or an 8 and 9 mana creatures in my hand to reduce their cost. So I do not think even after the nerf it would affect me much but that remains to be seen! The main purpose of it is to never use it unless you have 2 or 3 big cards in your hand.
Cards draw cards
Now the purpose of these cards are usually to give me more cards, thus more options to use. They work very well with Ekrileth to allow me to summon it with more cards in my hand and thus more power on board. Even if they were removed from the first turn, they usually make the opponent use resources on them and at the same time give me at least 1 card in their place.
Helmna, The Spear of Life
Now I had my doubt before on whether I should keep Cyclops Defender or if this card would be better in its place and I got to say I have been loving it so far. Let's say the worst case scenario happened where Helmna only heal my god for 3 which she will always do because it pretty impossible to reach 7 mana with no harm done to me, it will become a 5/9 mana. True it is 1/1 less stats than the cyclops, but the 3 heals on the god are huge sometimes and also the 1/1 will not make a huge difference at this point.
So I did not regret adding this card to my deck, but of course the Cyclops Defender is still a great option or any strong 7 mana frontline you have and like to use. The main purpose of it is protection and good stats on board!
Conclusion
I know after a week and a half of disappearance I might be very surprised when I go in and actually try to play again in weekend ranked, so all of this is theoretical since I did not have the time to play out anything before the weekend rank started.
However, all I know is that I enjoy playing this deck a lot and I will do my best to get as much wins as I can and if you are also a control decks lover you should definitely try it out if you have not yet! We will probably be seeing a lot of nature and war aggro decks this week so make sure to keep an eye out for that if you have not joined them already!
That was it for this one, I really missed posting for you guys and sharing my experience and decks with you all, it has been a while and it feel so good to be back to the game and also to this wonderful community and platform! I hope you all been having a good time and I wish you the best of luck on this weekend rank as well!
Let's snatch these mortal judgement packs together since this set has been pretty enjoyable so far and I will see you on the next one!
Mad love, Peace out <3
