Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I have posted any new decks here, and that is mainly because I have been playing gods unchained casually and for much less time and also been sticking to the same magic deck I was playing and did not change anything in it for a while.

However, after the latest patch changes, the meta changed a lot and last week I was able to get 8 wins but I felt like I am able to get more if I did some changes according to the new meta shift that happened. The meta now has currently went towards aggro deception, aggro death that can be either Zombies or Anubians and some other control decks that are mostly suffering against the huge amount of aggro deception and death at the moment.

So for this week I decided not to play another god, but to switch out and make some improvements to my control magic deck and keep playing the same god since I am already very used and familiar to his playstyle. And I was able to snatch 12 wins this week with a bit of luck in my matchups to say the least so here is my deck and some improvements I made and why I made them:

The deck

As you can see, this deck of course looks very familiar to the control magic deck I always play, however those couple of additions made really made a huge difference this weekend, so let us talk about each one of them separately:

New additions

Time-Bomb

"Time-Bomb.png"

I brought back 2 copies of this card back into my deck because it is an amazing card against aggro decks, it can help you clear a couple of creatures early on that can help you survive to 5 mana easier while also creating huge pressure for the opponent early on which can make him either play slow first couple of turns or sacrifice something which is amazing against aggro.

Bronze Servant

"bronze servant.png"

I added this card for a very specific purpose which is the Zombie decks that I expected to see a lot of this week and which was the case indeed! Best not to mulligan this card in your starting hand unless you're facing Zombies then it can bring you a lot of value!

Faraday Cage

"faraday.png"

This card is good extra wide clearance which can be handy going up against hidden aggro decks so I added only 1 copy of it. If you do not have this card and do not wish to buy it, it can simply be replaced with another Unannounced Arrival.

Pallas' Incantation

I decided to finally buy and add this card in place of the Ratify because it comes in very handy against Anubians now which can ruin their combos at 6 mana, as well as against control Light decks which I expected to see more of but did not surprisingly. But overall a good addition because it can also work as Ratify with extra awesome effect!

Great starting hand against different matchups

There was some great starting hand that I was always trying to get against specific matchups this week that can get you a good edge on them and start the game excellently so let's look at some of them:

Against Aggro Deception

I faced a lot of Aggro deception this week as I expected. Now we all know Deception relies on hidden creatures a lot to do the face damage and finish off the opponent. Now some of them are very aggressive from 1 to 5 mana and other are a bit slower and rely on chunking you slowly. A good starting hand against deception would be something like this:

"hann.png"

Now this hand is excellent because first of all the Lightning Talisman is a great card that can help you survive till 5 mana with the least damage possible, and with Shaped Blast to clear whatever mess there, or Stormstress to protect yourself if there isn't a wide board this can be a great kick to the game with the help of the other cards you will be drawing.

Also a good tip to keep in mind against deception is that you would always want to get to Valka's Discovery first if it was available in the sanctum and buy it!

Against Zombie Death

Now the starting hand in this case is very similar to the previous one but with a small change that is pretty logical so the hand might look like this:

"hand 2.png"

Starting with the Bronze Servant is pretty great here because your opponent will likely have an early Necroscepter. The Starshard bolt is good for clearin any early threats and the Stormstress can help you start gaining control of the game. Drawing a Shaped Blast also can be a great help to help you survive to later stages.

Against Control Decks

Now control decks in general have a specific hand that I always try to start with to get an edge over my opponent and that is:

"hnd 3.png"

Since against control the game will be slow these are the best cards to start with and let us see why:

Frenetic Bibliomaniac: A great card to draw more cards which will provide you with more options to play thus more choices to control the game the way you want or put pressure on your opponent.

Crystaltech Scholar: Since you will have all the time in the world and your opponent will not pressure you most likely, this is the best card to have to get an edge over your opponent and ramp so fast to get to late game faster!

Ekrileth or LeyHoard Hatchling: Now since both of these cards gets better the more cards you have in your hand, and since you'll be drawing a lot and not playing anything early game, it is great to start with any of them. Ekrileth would be my first choice in this situation if you did not get it, go for the LeyHoard.

PS: Now keep in mind of course you won't always get the cards you want in your starting hand, so try your best to get the cards that have the closest effects to the ones mentioned above and do not be greedy so you do not get 7 or 8 mana cards at the beginning which can be detrimental.

Final Thoughts

Now I was a bit lucky with my card draws this week and I admit that, however, that deck worked very well and I was satisfied with getting 12 wins with it which is pretty good to me! It is also very fun to play since I enjoy playing control magic a lot and I am very used to it at this point.

Now of course sometimes the game odds might not be on your side and you might be drawing the worst cards possible at the worst possible time, do not get frustrated and start changing cards randomly, just take a break, relax and come back later until you start killing it! Now I advice everyone who likes to play magic to try this deck for this week if you have not played your games yet and I hope it will get you a good amount of wins like it did to me!

That was everything for this post be sure to let me know what you think of it and how did you do this weekend and what deck did you use in case you finished your games already and be sure to drop a follow if you like the posts I make and good luck to everyone else in the rest of his games!

Mad Love, Peace out <3
