Why is this happening? First of all, the far left is spinning a narrative about an oppressively racist country. And it doesn't resonate with many Latinos because these are people who came to America seeking freedom and prosperity and found it. Adding to that, many of them fled socialism. They understand that it doesn't work. Next, many understand when they are being pandered to. The left's patronizing offer to be an "ally" while also white-splaining to these people that they ought to self-identify as "Latinx." The whole thing is a farce. The Dems disappeared up their own asses trying to ascribe victimhood to people who don't want to wear that label.
