I personally find owning and playing the original hardware and games much more rewarding. Sure, sometimes they freeze or have other issues because of being old, even if kept in or restored to good condition with what you buy off Ebay.
But, the feeling for those of us growing up with them and wanting to relive those memories, it makes it worth while when we do have money to save and be able to buy original instead!
I also, will buy remasters/collections etc that are brought to the PC or ports of the originals, because I cannot afford original hardware and games except saving during the year, to buy as a Christmas present to myself.
We do need to ensure we preserve old media as best as possible, both original or digital based. But companies greedily only want it happening if they make money.. piracy isn't the way, but ROMs are a great temporary way to enjoy until you can afford digital or physical.
