Happiness is to an extent a decision. You can decide to be happy even in pitiful conditions and maintain hope when things look very bad. With immunotherapy cancers that were death sentences will be mostly curable within the next twenty to thirty years. Aging will likely be genetically removed from the human race within two hundred years. Too late for us, but we are on the verge of immortality in a healthy young, disease free body.
We will also be able to grow new parts for a person in labs very soon. In Japan they have figured out how to regrow human teeth. Lots and lots of cool things are coming down the line.
Depression can be very pathologic as well. Some people even have genetic traits of depression that are hard to overcome. Hopefully we'll figure those problems out too... Ernest Hemmingway and his daughter both committed suicide, genetic depression at it's finest.
I hope you're feeling well, always keep that hope alive!
