I think this napkin is funny, asking “what made you stand out today?” while none of the people depicted particularly stand out. Everyone is trying so hard, and in doing so they all just happen to blend in together.
It’s just like how people are so often today. Everyone is trying desperately to stand out from the crowd, but they don’t seem to be happy to be a part of the crowd in the first place.
For me, standing out from the crowd isn’t something I’m too keen on. I’ve always been a shy person to begin with, and standing out from the crowd has never been a priority of mine. To me, being in and surrounded by a crowd is much more comfortable, and I feel a lot more freedom and security that way.
In a crowd you’re a nobody, and nobody is looking to you for direction, entertainment, or inspiration. You’re free to be your authentic self, while when you stand out you’re almost forced to act how the crowd expects or wishes you to act.
Not everyone has to be a rockstar or a world leader or an influencer. If everyone were these kind of “stand out” people, then no one would stand out and they would just all blend in again to a differently made crowd. I think it’s better to just be yourself, and if you are naturally exceptional, then that’s great! But most people are just average and that’s great too, because they are being true to themselves and not trying to force themselves into artificial roles and responsibilities.
