For our battle today, we have the wealthy Dax Paragon joining the ranks. Let's find out if he is the "secret ingredient" to winning this battle. Shall we?
Dax Paragon is a guy that seems quite unimpressive at first. Well, he isn't so bad considering that he costs just 2 mana. Looking at Dax Paragon's stats, he is quite ok for a 2 mana monster. His damage starts low at just 1x and ends quite low at just 2x but this is magic damage so it's fair I guess. His 2x speed is adequate for his mana cost in my opinion. Looking at health, I think Dax does well in this aspect. 3x health going up to 5x is quite impressive considering his mana cost.
The best part of this guy is probably his amplify ability. Amplify is an ability that I really like and think is kind of underrated. This ability is even one of the reasons I really like Queen Mycelia.
Affliction is also a wonderful ability. Not being able to heal a monster (especially the tank) can be really frustrating. I have used Affliction with other monster but not Dax.
For this battle, I use Dax Paragon at Level 3 in silver. Let's go!
| COMBAT RULES | |
|---|---|
| MODIFICATIONS | KEEP YOUR DISTANCE |
| ACTIVE SPLINTERS | FIRE, EARTH, LIFE, DEATH |
| SUMMONER | |

| NAME | GENERAL SLOAN |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | RARE |
| LEVEL | 4 |
| MANA COST | 4 |
| BUFFS | +1 RANGED DAMAGE |
Alright so the ruleset says we should keep our distance and using ranged attacks is one way we can do that. General Sloan's +1 ranged attack buff can be of immense help in this type of ruleset. Now, I just need to summon some ranged monsters.
| MONSTER 1 | |
|---|---|
| NAME | PELACOR CONJURER |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | REWARD |
| RARITY | COMMON |
| LEVEL | 5 |
| MANA COST | 2 |
| ATTACK | NONE |
| SPEED | 4X |
| HEALTH | 6X |
| TOUGHNESS | 0 |
| ABILITIES | FLYING, MAGIC REFLECT |
Given the Keep Your Distance ruleset, magic monsters should be expected from the other side. I know because I will use them as well. Well, the enemy is in for a surprise as I place Pelacor Conjurer in the frontline. This guy does not have any attack of his own but he does not need any because his Magic reflect is quite reliable. Flight can also help this guy evade some ranged attacks.
| MONSTER 2 | |
|---|---|
| NAME | CHAOS AGENT |
| SPLINTER | NEUTRAL |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | COMMON |
| LEVEL | 5 |
| MANA COST | 1 |
| ATTACK | NONE |
| SPEED | 3X |
| HEALTH | 3X |
| TOUGHNESS | 0 |
| ABILITIES | DODGE |
The given ruleset increases the probability of summoning monsters with Snipe. I wouldn't want any of my attackers to be taken out by snipe so I put Chaos Agent in the second position to defend against that. If a snipe monster appears and it is ranged, this guy has a chance to evade the attacks. If no snipe appears, then this guy can defend against opportunity or even act as a secondary tank if Pelacor Conjurer is taken out.

| NAME | TIME MAGE |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | RARE |
| LEVEL | 4 |
| MANA COST | 4 |
| ATTACK | 2X MAGIC ATTACK |
| SPEED | 5X |
| HEALTH | 3X |
| TOUGHNESS | 0 |
| ABILITIES | SLOW |
I already have a monster with Flying and one with dodge. I can increase their dodge chances by reducing the speed of the enemy's monsters. Time Mage can do just this for me with her Slow ability. This will also give my monsters a higher chance of attacking quicker.
| MONSTER 4 | |
|---|---|
| NAME | DAX PARAGON |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | EPIC |
| LEVEL | 3 |
| MANA COST | 1 |
| ATTACK | 1X MAGIC ATTACK |
| SPEED | 2X |
| HEALTH | 4X |
| TOUGHNESS | 0 |
| ABILITIES | AMPLIFY |
In fourth position, we have Dax Paragon! This guy's amplify ability will play a major part in this battle. As Pelacor Conjurer reflects the magic from the other side, Dax will amplify the damage. What synergy!
| MONSTER 5 | |
|---|---|
| NAME | PORTAL SPINNER |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | RARE |
| LEVEL | 4 |
| MANA COST | 5 |
| ATTACK | 3X RANGED ATTACK |
| SPEED | 2X |
| HEALTH | 4X |
| TOUGHNESS | 2X |
| ABILITIES | SCATTERSHOT |
Portal Spinner is a card that I have grown to like a lot. There really is no plan putting this monster here given here scattershot ability. Normally, I would have placed her at the back because of the armor but I am gambling that there won't be any sneak monsters as most of the sneak monsters are melee attackers.
| MONSTER 6 | |
|---|---|
| NAME | PELACOR ARBALEST |
| SPLINTER | LIFE |
| EDITION | CHAOS LEGION |
| RARITY | RARE |
| LEVEL | 4 |
| MANA COST | 6 |
| ATTACK | 2X RANGED ATTACK |
| SPEED | 3X |
| HEALTH | 4X |
| TOUGHNESS | 0 |
| ABILITIES | DOUBLE STRIKE |
Now to maximize Sloan's buff. Pelacor Arbalest's double strike ability is a major asset. In this battle, he will potentially do 6x damage on every turn. I hope he does not miss!

I want awesome synergy in this battle. Let's see if Dax's amplify will work well with Conjurer's Magic reflect. Also, let's see how Time Mage's Slow will affect the entire team.
Round 1:
Round 2:
Round 3:
Sometimes punches and swords are not necessary. Ranged attacks are always superior to up close attacks. The life team knows that and was able to outsmart the death team. What a match!
Part of my strategy worked. I was able to maximize Pelacor Conjurer's magic reflect thanks to Dax Paragon's amplify. The damage done with the magic reflect nullified the Life leechers' gains and still did damage to their original health.
The gamble I took with Portal Spinner paid out. The Scattershot unbelievably hit the Dhampir Stalker twice! This guy would have been a menace to my team but Portal Spinner took care of him.
The part of my strategy that did not work was the part of evading attacks. Apart from using magic monsters, the enemy used a ranged monster that had the True Strike ability. This meant that my guys could not dodge any attack.
Yes I like Dax Paragon. I don't have this card yet but I always rent him whenever I want to battle. He makes up an important part of my Life team because of the amplify for just 2 mana. Imagine just 2 mana to increase the damage of thorns, return fire or magic reflect. There's really no reason not to like this guy.
