Splinterlands announced some major updates this week and the biggest ones for me are Land Phase 0.5 and the implementation of Runicore in the game. I am really excited because, after a long time, it feels like my investments would finally start to pay off. The bear market has really affected a lot of people (me included) so it is always great to hear some good news once in a while.
I have said in the past that what really attracted me to splinterlands was the Land expansion. I did my research and understood how Land was an opportunity that I did not want to miss. Also, seeing how virtual land had been successful on other platforms, I had a strong feeling that it would be a similar case with Splinterlands. After getting, a Plot of Land, I was really excited that I even blogged about it. I was always obsessively checking the "Land Expansion" channel on the discord server for updates or just info in general. However, over the months, I started to doubt the potential of Land because it seemed like it was no longer a priority. Many times I even considered selling to buy cards but I just held on to some hope that the investment would pay off eventually.
A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Land holders would begin to receive SPS rewards just for holding land. This was the first good news I had heard about land in a while and it got me excited for land again. So yes, I decided to keep holding my plot and I am glad I did because, with the just released Land Phase 0.5, I can claim my land deeds.
Currently, Land deeds are not tradeable so claiming them would be a sure way to tame the temptation of selling. I would have loved to claim the land deeds but I still want to have that option of being able to sell if anything happens. This bear market brings tough times that we always have to be ready for. Still, I am not planning to sell my plot anytime soon. I really want to reap any benefits that Land has to offer.
Less than a month after the minting of the Runi was completed, the legendary ETH monsters have finally been integrated into the game. This, for me, is really huge! I have always been optimistic about Runicore right from day one. I got a whitelist spot and so was able to mint at a cheaper rate.

Of course I wanted a gold runi but this one is not bad at all. It has some unique properties including the Willpower background which only 0.51% have.

I have not yet implemented my runi into the game yet because I have become more passive but I would like to see how it competes on the battle field. That Rebirth ability would be really helpful in a ruleset like Noxious Fumes. If used in a match without magic or with Weak Magic, the runi would be able to take two more hits after rebirth.
I still believe that Runicore has a lot of potential. Bringing an Ethereum NFT into Hive is a huge step for Splinterlands. I really like that these monster are individually unique and that their supply is really small. I also like the fact that they were given their own unique ability that no other cards have. Considering the other benefits that comes with having a runi, I really believe this particular project is a good one in the long run. Runi may even turn out to be bigger than Land. Who Knows?
Right now, I am not selling my Runi. I may rent it out to increase my rental income if the option is provided. For now though, I will just hold on to my runi and try to resist any "high" offers to sell it.
