I am fairly new to steemit. I don't have a tech background so am still getting used to how everything works. Today i found the tag @christian-trail and thought i would share my spiritual journey. I used the title because i think it fits.
I was born in 1966, one of five, in a christian household in the south west. My father was my mentor in everything, my educator and my spiritual advisor. He insisted i went to Sunday school as well as my siblings.
Unfortunately my father past away when i was eleven. My father was the glue that held our family together and my mother found it hard to cope. My father was the christian in our family, my mum was agnostic after having a bad childhood, so after his death my mum moved house and severed any ties with the church.
I was put into care a year later and didn't set foot in a church or Sunday school again, except maybe when i was in prison.
For 45 years my life was hell with a few small islands of worth like the birth of my children.
Due to experiences i went through in local authority childrens "homes" i dropped out of mainstream society and became a violent drug addict. I lived that life for 35 years.
Four years ago i became homeless and was living in a caravan. My health was failing and i ended up in hospital. I was diagnosed with COPD and PTSD. Doctors told me that my breathing would get steadily worse and i would eventually need oxogen.
I went back to my caravan and started to gain weight and was struggling to get around properly.
A chance meeting one day i met a doctor who was a christian. She got me more help for my physical condition but after she heard my story she got me help for my PTSD and also gave me an appointment to meet a friend of hers. I went to the meeting not realizing it was a talk on the universe by a vicar. After the presentation i spoke to him and he suggested i pray....
BOOM
That was four years ago! My life has become unmeasurably better. I'm not on oxygen as predicted. I have lost some weight, have a dog and am now active. I could tell you about the small miracles that happened along the way. The times i needed things and they were provided with prayer. The fact that i am here at all is testament to the power of prayer and of the spirit of God.
I thank God everyday and try to live how i think he wants me to and how he has asked.
I am the prodigal son returned
Thanks for reading my story. I was lost but have now returned to my fathers teachings where they left off.
