Hello everybody, this is Tomas again! Blog number 2 of this series
Today was one of the very first days that I had free, the job I was doing was finally finished, so I had a couple of days to relax and stay at home and do the work I love. I've been playing music and drawing a lot, I've been working on the new comic strip for the Instagram channel, I am very very happy with how the production is coming along.
Today I wanted to talk about something that I think is very important, because even though art and drawing is something crucial to me, and I can't really think of myself living without it. Its very interesting, I am 29 years old now and started drawing at the age of 26 before that I never draw anything, nothing. It's very crazy how I spent the first part of my life without doing something and suddenly I started and now I cant think of my life without it. Its a vital and crucial part of me. So I wanted for everyone reading to maybe think about this, could there be something that you never tried before and that you actually would really like to do?
My whole theme in today's blog is that it is never too late to do anything. I truly believe that anything can be learned, I started to draw from scratch, and I know I'm not the greatest now, but im miles better than when I started and I love it. I enjoy drawing I don't care about the end result, I just enjoy the process so much.
I remember when I was very very young, I have this image vividly planted in my brain. I must have been for or five years old, I was with my dad, he was trying to get me to draw as most parents do. But I didnt, I couldnt. I kept saying to my father that I couldnt do it because I didnt know how so it wouldnt be any good. He tried to tell me over andd over again that I didnt knew how to draw because
I never did it, and if I never started Id never learn. But I was very stubborn and I kept saying no, no, no ... and I didnt. I then spent the next 20 years of my life wishing I could but never been able to..
During my school years, art was always one of my worst subjects. I did horribly in them, but at the age of 26 something changed.I met two people that I now consider to be my best friends. They were professional artists, they could draw and paint... I just thought they were amazing, so they sparked my curiosity. I started to hang out with them more, and I watch them draw. Finally one day I broke out of my shell and ask them if they could teach me something, just a bit.
For me, it was hard because I am not an extrovert person and because they were so good, professional, I felt like it was not worth their time. For a long time, I didn't ask, I just looked at them and what they did. Then I started drawing as well. At first, I was very shy, I didn't want to let them see my drawings, eventually, I did and they started teaching me, I then realize it's like anything, at first, is very, very hard. But if you keep doing it and if you do it every day, over time you learn. I think humans have an amazing capacity to learn and to develop.
A conversation I have with a lot of people now is that I show them my drawings and they say: oh! I wish I could draw. And I tell them, you CAN learn is not too late. That is one of the things that set me on this journey. I want to prove to people that you can start something a bit later in life and still succeed. One of the many things that drive me, one of the things that I know is going to make me reach my goal of being an independent artist is exactly that, to show and inspire people. In my mind, I have this idea, if I can do it, if I can reach where I'm going, starting so late in life with absolutely no natural talent, because it didn't come easily to me whatsoever. It was extremely hard, I had to work a lot in it. But if I can do it, then anybody else can. That is what I'm trying to accomplish here.
Today I'm extremely happy, got a chance to sleep more, relax and keep going with everything. My drawings are coming along nicely, I already uploaded a comic strip to Instagram, I'm going to do some work on my website. Now the podcast and the blog are done :) and I have to say I'm starting to get more comfortable with the microphone and the blogging.
I just want everybody if they are going to take something from this episode, is that maybe you should take a few minutes to think of something that you never really did but would like to do. For me it was drawing, I wanted to draw but I never did, once I started I couldn't stop. Maybe there is something that you never started, maybe it's dancing, singing, juggling or cooking... something. Its worth the try, especially today with access to the internet, you can look up for anything and you can get started with very little hustle.
Anyway, that is it for today and I hope you are having an amazing day, bye.
