It has been some time since I've done a #beersaturday post. I took a short social media break, but I also haven't been drinking much beer. Considering it's Super Bowl weekend here in the US I decided to stop by the local beer store and see what they had.
The store near me often runs specials on some interesting beer brands. They're usually lower end imports, but also, usually rare finds here in the states. These were being sold for $7 for an 8pack, it was actually a 4pack for $6.99 buy one get one free deal. This week they had an Austrian brand called Stiegl HELL. With a name like Hell beer I had to give it a try.
So it's Super Bowl weekend and for me, I just can't watch a Super Bowl without beer. Football and Beer... It's like pizza and wings, peas and carrots, peanut butter and jelly. The two just go hand in hand. Like Beer and Whiskey!
I also couldn't wait until tomorrow to crack one open. These have been sitting in my fridge for a week just screaming my name... Like a siren song, "Dood, come drink us... Come try the deliciousness, come to the fridge, you know you want too." and then I remembered.... BEER SATURDAY... I must open a HELL beer and try it out. For my fellow beer loving Hivians! Cheers! 🤣
All kidding aside, HELL beer is an Austrian Lager. The label boasts a 4.5% Alcohol. Served in pint cans. Another bonus. Most of our domestic beers come in 12 ounce cans. Personally, I like a proper pint! Especially if you're just having one or two. In my humble opinion, it's the perfect size. Sip one or two pints and it's the perfect buzz. Not drunk, not sloppy, but warm and happy 😉
Whenever I try a new beer I like to use a proper beer glass. I like this one because your nose fits right in the glass while your drinking it. It's also clear glass so you can see the color and texture. You get the full effect. The sight, the taste, the smell. Your senses filled with beer overload!
The beer is very light in color. Almost a pale yellow. If I'm being honest, it looks like watered down piss. LMAO. Sorry, but it is what it is. 🤣 Now the taste was incredibly surprising. I wasn't expecting it to have this much flavor. I'm actually really enjoying this one. It's light, crisp, hoppy but not overly hoppy like some IPA's. A light bouquet. It has a reasonable thickness, with a very refreshing aftertaste. I really like this a lot.
Yeah, I'll probably be going back for a couple cases of these. I actually like these a lot. I'm really surprised. If this is a lower end Austrian beer, you Austrian's are lucky as hell. This would be a really nice everyday beer. Unpretentious with a crisp refreshing taste. I could see this as the perfect summer day beer. Although, even if I buy a couple cases, I'd be surprised if they made it to summer. 🤣
Now I'm really looking forward to the super bowl tomorrow. I can't wait to properly tear into these. I've already finished the beer for this post, and frankly, I think I'll be grabbing another.
If anyone was wondering about my Super Bowl pick, I'm going with New England. Mainly because I liked the payout in Gemini Exchange Prediction market. I placed a gentlemanly $5 wager on the Patriots. If they win I'll get $13 back. Betting on the Seahawks only paid out like $1.50 or something ridiculous. I'll take the long shot. The $5 wager will just make it that much more exciting.
Yes, I know the Seahawks are the better team or at least they're favored to be the better team. Frankly, I think it's anybody's game. Also, I have to route for the AFC east team considering that's our division. Also a rivalry, so this will be a rare occasion for me.
So, till the next beer Saturday post! Cheers, Skol, Prost!
