Imagine playing chess with an A.I who is constantly upgrading his strategy as he records your all your habits and thought patterns, and adapts to that.
Imagine playing something a little more complex like the Chinese game of Go.
Or better even, imagine if the AI already knows everything about you, how many hours of sleep you get per night, how you react under stress, or even how many hours you sit in the toilet in the morning.
Nowadays, people are inviting into their home a machine that not only records and lodges every tiny piece of information about them, but also analyzes all that data into categories and creates different types of profiles, as we will learn in the coming years.
That machine will be very familiar with your problem solving process, and will record every variation of it. And inevitably, it’ll already knows what you’re going to do before you do it.
All your behavioral patterns will probably be mapped as well.
Needless to say that if the A.Is were to turn on us, it wouldn’t be a close fight.
And you can’t expect the machine to have empathy on someone it only regards as cold data. For the same reason why can’t expect the machine to understand the human condition... To appreciate the moving aspects of humanity, when we selflessly care about others more than ourselves, when we’re fighting with everything we’ve got, even despite all odds.
Heart, passion, despair, happiness, courage… You can’t expect it to understand any of these things.
Because to the algorithm, you are nothing but the sum of your urges.
Which makes you wonder, what if some day we become disposable?
I know that it’s easy these days to hate on Elon, but you can’t really fault him for worrying about the risks of Artificial Intelligence. Think about all the angles and threats that he sees and that we’re not even aware of.
So yeah, the day that people start voluntarily uploading their pooping habits to the cloud, is the day that Mars no longer seems crazy.
Which begs the question: What do you think is crazier?
Trusting politicians and bureaucrats with something with this magnitude, and expect them to handle it properly?
Or that one of our smartest people in the world is working on a fail-safe plan on planet Mars?
Because let’s face it, expecting politicians to have the A.I’s superior intelligence focus on medical research, is like expecting them to use that drone technology to shoot food at hungry people.
I guess that's why they say: It's a crazy, crazy world.
