Our story opens with a man running through the woods breathless and terrified.
In his face reads the absolute expression of fear.
He keeps running. He’s frightened, he scared and he doesn’t know what to do.
He trips and falls down. He quickly uses a tree to help himself up while all of the sudden he hears someone calling his name.
“Ulysses!”
“Don’t worry, we’re here to help”
A massive battle is taking place in New York, all the Avengers are there. There was a surprise attack by one of the Celestials (originally appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and scheduled for the upcoming Eternals movie) but there was nothing surprising about his sneak attack, which is why the Avengers defeated him so quickly.
You see, the Avengers already knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened. They had a secret weapon and that weapon was called Ulysses.
Ulysses is no ordinary man, in fact is has a unique superpower that nobody has… He can see the future.
Captain Marvel immediately offers him a job, but Tony Stark has his doubts. He wants to exhume caution until they figure out exactly how Ulysses’ powers work.
(The fascinating part here is that this story was written before Avengers: Endgame was released so it will be fascinating to see who would take Stark’s role if we’re ever getting Civil War 2 in the screen.
Either way, there have been a few interesting Civil War 2 easter eggs for placed in Endgame that we’ll explore as we go along.
A few things to know before continuing to the story: Steve Rogers is rejuvenated by a cosmic cube, Captain Marvel becomes the head of Shield, and Valkyrie takes Thor’s place for a little bit while he’s cruising with The Guardians)
Captain Marvel decides that since Ulysses can see the future, that they would from now on act on his visions and prevent crimes before they occur.
Tony tries to argue that maybe they’re going to fast with this but nobody seems to listen.
Steve Rogers says that they should hear what Tony has to say.
Tony starts asking a series of hypothetical questions: “What if the visions are about one of our friends? Should we lock them up before they’ve done anything?”
He keeps arguing with Carol, and he leaves the room.
In fact, he leaves the Avengers facility and never comes back as he wants nothing to do with the pre-crime profiling the rest of Avengers are conducting.
The weeks pass and Stark receives a visit of a familiar face. It’s MJ, Peter Parker’s girlfriend.
She tells him that Ulysses had another vision, but his predictions didn’t end up with a 100% accuracy this time and because of that something terrible had happened.
One of the Avengers had just died.
