Customer Support Calls
Does anyone else on here work in support? I knew what I was getting into, but some people still crack me up. You have got to laugh especially when you're talking to IT for someone else's company.
I tell this one IT person- your issue is unique, there's not much precedent for it. It's related to a Microsoft application, Outlook, right? Try an Office Repair. He's got reasons why it won't work, they're on a Virtual Desk Image, yadda yadda.
But in my head, I think, they don't pay you to doubt solutions, plus it's not your machine with the error. What have you got to lose telling someone to try it? He's dubious. That was all a week ago.
Fast Forward To Today
I get a call, it's from the same IT chap. What's his deal? He wants an update. So I ask about the Office Repair, to which he doesn't even reply. So I know he doubted it so much, he never tried it. Fine.
So then I say, hey, it could be this one thing, let me share my screen to show you. He's left our remote session while I wasn't looking, so fast. So I say again, "Hey, I wanna show you what I'm talking about so you know where I'm coming from."
Finally, he joins. But he phrases a question in a way, I just had to spend my ten minute freewrite validating myself. He goes, "So you want me to believe..."
The rest of the question is too specific to even bother retelling. But more importantly, did you hear that? What a lot of nerve! You're in the same line of work I'm in- support.
I don't need you to believe a damn thing! But then again, why are you doubting attempted fixes? I could understand if I said something trite, like turning it on and off again, but this is a specifically related solution, that I'm trying to show you and you're quick to leave, quick to doubt!
I don't need you to have faith in a damn thing, man, I need you to take my recommendation and see if it worked for your customer so I can close this case. The audacity of half these people, man...
Wrapping That Up
It's like crypto. I don't need anyone to believe a damn thing, to be honest. But when I say, hey, I've been doing this for seven years, would you try this? I don't your speculation on token performance or whether or not we'll rally influencers to shill. I need you to open your ears and close your damn mouth when grown folks are talking about things they experienced!
Can you dig it?
