I lost my cool on a frigid day. I fumed, cursing my disorganization and walk-in closet. The attic space sloped downward and inward at 45 degrees. On all fours, I berated boxes as the clothes hung overhead brushed over my head and back. I fumbled about the clothing canopy, a dumb beast. I walked downstairs like a prosecution. I made a damning case in my mind about who might be responsible. In my blind anger, I couldn’t find my kicks. Or see, it was me.
I was just talking about cleaning up my act. Seriously?
He grew hot. Vision narrowed. Dream is collapsing. Explosive cyclogenesis still got the message across. The streets whitened, chapped from the sudden barometric pressure drop. Ice replaced water with cold calculation; people couldn’t get a grip. The change in pressure necessary to classify something as a bomb cyclone is latitude dependent. It could only mean one thing.
Emotions change like the weather. Daily journaling let pressure leak, a release valve on stress. Sure, I didn’t want to lose a challenge to myself, but what’s more, the space for new steps of change opens. The holidays and the cold warm our feelings, but a sudden drop, and even Hell hath no fire nor flame. Did my desires have anything to do with it? I see how goals- thinking only of an end hinders a change. In comparison, changes to the process – a space for books, to write, music to accompany each task- making things obvious, easy and attractive went a long way to sticking with it. Missing things, shoes, keys or the point stresses you.
Stress punished everyone adjacent like bad weather or a fender-bender. In a quest to do more, I did less. I worry about the wrong things- like why I can’t find my shoes rather than what’s preventing me. This recent storm warning at least reminds me that I have to reset the room- return things to their proper place once I’m done, if I don’t want any more severe weather changes.
