Today I was rehearsing with my band and we do a couple of songs by The Cult. After practice, we were talking about how great this band is and that inspired me to feature them on today's post.
The Cult was formed in 1983 in Bradford, West Yorkshire by lead singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy. The band had many musicians come and go bot those two are its core.
Their history is full of tension and controversy which led the band to break up and resume activity on more than one occasion. They are currently active and, according to a Tweet by Duffy last year, a new record is in the making.
Known for their post-punk, hard rock style, The Cult released many successful albums, including their 1989 "Sonic Temple", which happens to be one of my favorites.
Here are a few songs that I really like by this great band. I hope you enjoy my list!
Featured in the album "Love", Rain is one of my favorite songs by The Cult and I think it really shows what they are about: very interesting guitar riffs, catchy choruses and a powerful voice. You don't need much more than that to create a good rock song!
This song was released as a single for the movie "Gone in 60 seconds" and while it probably doesn't rank very highly among The Cult fans, it's one of my favorites. Let's just say it reminds me of an old love, but that's a story for another day! For now, enjoy the song.
I said that Sonic Temple is my favorite album by The Cult and this song is one of the reasons. It's one of the songs we do in my band and it works every time! We all love to play it and the audience really rocks to it, even if they are listening to it for the very first time. Instant classic!
Yet another gem from "Sonic Temple" just to show how great is that album! We also play this one in the band and it's surprisingly complex. It's not exactly hard to play but it has a lot of change in dynamics which make it a very interesting song.
This is probably one of the most recognizable The Cult songs. It may not be as heavy as they usually are, but this is still a great rock song. Yet another great display of Ian's vocal prowess and that distinguishable Duffy guitar tone!
And that's it, guys! There is much more to The Cult so I really suggest you check them out if you are not very familiar with the band. I can't recommend Sonic Temple enough! They have a lot of good albums but this one is a must!
I hope you have a good week and see you on the next Music Monday!
