I was listening to some 80's rock the other day and suddenly Twisted Sister started playing. It took me back to my teenage years when I first learning how to play guitar. It was a long time after the golden years of Twisted Sister, but they really had some influence on me during those years.
Heavy makeup, long hair, and a questionable choice for clothing. At a first glance, Twisted Sister can be mistaken for a meme band but the truth is they are the real deal. Dee Snider has a trademark voice and the band was able to imprint their unique style on the history of rock. Here are some of my favorite songs.
This is probably their most famous song and it was the one that introduced me to the band. This song was featured in "Stay Hungry", the album that made Twisted Sister mainstream. I really like the music video they created for the song but if you want to go straight to the start of the song, skip to 1:25 and enjoy.
Another song from "Stay Hungry". This is actually the song that introduced me to Twisted Sister. Even though I'm a guitar player, I remember trying to play that drum intro on my friend's drum every time we took a break from rehearsing. The guitar solo on this song was also one of the first solos that I learned by ear. I remember I used to think it was a masterpiece. I don't have such a high opinion of it anymore, but it still brings me some good memories.
This song from the album "Love Is For Suckers" is probably less known than the previous one on this post but I really like how everything about it just screams 80's.
Yet another song from "Stay Hungry" but I just couldn't leave it out of this list because this is my absolute Twisted Sister song. It's a lot different from their usual work as it's more of a rock ballad than a hard rock song and also the lyrics are much deeper and don't have that usual comic trait that we see on most of their work.
I think this song delivers a powerful message both with the words beautifully sang by Snider and also with the instrumental work, especially the guitar solo in the middle and the fils that follow it to the end of the song. This is an absolute masterpiece of the 80's in my opinion.
That's all for now. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope to see you in my next post!
