Steem as a cryptocurrency is a great way to facilitate the community aspects of Steemit. I'm very new to Steemit so I'm not sure if this is the goal, but if Steem is meant to be exchanged with one another as a currency, why not have third party wallets work with Steem?
Maybe this has been done already but I haven't seen any. It looks to me like the only way to hold Steem is through Steemit. Whereas all my other cryptocurrencies are safe and secure on my hardware wallet.
