Preface

As of now I have played six hours of Ghost Recon Wildlands. I've played through a little more than one region (of many), and have killed the first region bosses. My experience and impressions of this game could decrease as I play longer, and so this article is meant to just explain my initial thoughts. I will try to remain as spoiler-free as possible.

The Story

You are an elite soldier comprising a team of 4 killers whose sole mission is assassinate El Sueno (The Dream), the head of a cartel that has turned Bolivia into a Narco-State.

So far this story has grabbed me. The environment you're interacting with and the bosses you are faced up against really compliment the attitude and the message that Bolivia is in need of your help. The more you help Bolivia, the more rebels join your cause against the cartel.

The Graphics

You will require a decent computer if you wish to play the PC version. The graphics are very intensive and require medium to high level hardware.

The Gameplay

That fact that you are one of four is very important for this game. You are meant to play tactically and in sync with your team. When you are play solo (which I have been doing solely), you can command your team with basic functions such as 'weapons hot', 'regroup', or 'hold'. This gives you the sense that you're part of a high-trained killing team, which is exactly what they were going for.

The weapons so far are enjoyable. There is lots of customization through not only attachments but also painting. This allows you to adapt your playstyle to how you wish, either stealthy, guns blazing, or whatever mixture you prefer.

One noticeable downside to the weapon system I have found is that you can change your loadout whenever you wish. This means you don't really face penalties from equipping a specific weapon because you can just equip another when you want to.

Overall

I have enjoyed the first six hours of gametime and I look forward to playing through the captivating story. The intensive graphics slightly discouraged me initially, but this is the direction AAA games are going and I knew I would have to upgrade my desktop in the future.
