Not really, I'm earning around 25% above minimum wage, around $50 a day, which is what the maids over here earn...

The only difference is that my wage will scale with years of work, while theirs won't.

I still think that starting out I should earn more, especially if I show hard work and good solid code, but companies don't think like that.
