This explore has been 8 years in the making! My very first explore of an abandoned location was on this property back in 2015, the coal power plant for this factory and several others that have been demolished. At that time this factory was being used by a scrap metal company. A couple years a ago they left and it has been abandoned since, but it had heavy security. Cameras and motion sensors all over it! A few friends got caught trying to explore it, so I just wrote it off as not doable. Until a explorer that I don't know but had watched a drone video of mine about the factory, messaged and sent me pictures of inside. Telling me there was no security. The next day a friend and I were inside wandering around snapping photos. After more than an hour of wandering I turned a corner and heard the blaring sound of an alarm. We quickly ran out and watched to see if any security showed up. No one did, so this may require a revisit in the future.
Factory Background:
This 350,000 square foot building was built in 1924 as part of the Canadian Westinghouse company's Hamilton West Plant. The building was used as a foundry and pattern shop for production of electrical equipment. The company converted the building in 1963 as an appliance and shipping warehouse.
Elements of the original foundry have been removed and updated and secondary structures have been added and removed, the overall form and features have been maintained.
