A friend and I went out just before dusk to look for storm drains to explore at Hamilton's Bayfront. We walked through downtown and made it to a park and soccer field just before the water. This is when we both saw what we thought was heavy smoke in the air.
We couldn't see a source for the smoke and joked about how no one else was paying attention to it. After another 10 minutes of walking we made it to the water and realized it wasn't smoke, it was actually fog. A very strange fog, that neither of us had ever seen. It was very thick, to the point of looking like smoke from a nearby fire but would have clear patches dotted all through it.
We realized that attempting to explore the storm drains wouldn't be in the cards, because the amount of people around. Se I focused on the fog! For the brief time that you could see the sun through it, when you couldn't and as it got dark.
As the sun vanished it became very eerie and even the animals seemed to be feeling it. The swans were way more timid than usual and making a lot of sounds. Then this Blue Heron let me get very close, closer than I have ever been to one!
To end the night off we played with the lights, a flashlight and steel wool.
It wasn't what we expected at all, but turned out to be a great night!
