Ladies and Gents; let's take a moment to talk about hunting in TEOTWAWKI land! This is something that could be have a crucial impact on your further existence after SHTF!
Now when I say "hunting" I am not only talking about going out and getting a deer to bring home to mama! I am talking about all sorts of things. So I'm going to go ahead and list off a few things for you that you may also want to "hunt" for in TEOTWAWKI!
Item 1
So since I have already said it; we will start with game! Now hunting game may not be so easy at the end. It also may not be so easy if ill prepared! Hunting for game takes strategy and not just a gun. A gun is a plus, but it can be done without if need be! The best thing you could do to hunt for tasty critters is set traps, but also proactively hunt on foot with a gun and/or a handcrafted weapon like a bow or spear or whatever you might come up with! Now looking for big game may not be so easy in a time like so! So the best advice I can give is to be aware of your surroundings and you may get lucky! Look to the ground and trees for food as well as looking around for the big critters!
Item 2
The most important thing an individual can look for, hands down, is water! Water is a fuel that cannot be replaced by anything else! As I always say, sanitize any water before consumption! You may take water from a running stream or a lake/pond, dig for it, draw it from plants or even find it in bottles depending on your location!
Item 3
Canned goods are a valuable source of nourishment, but may be one of the harder things to find out there in apocaland! I'm not saying it would be impossible, but it may not be the simplest task you have done all day! Due to a mass panic people will flood the stores possibly resulting in a good ol' fashioned riot. Something that you might see in a black friday scene of a movie! Lol. But maybe a tad worse! Anyways, this mass panic may result in a few things missed at your local super market! But you may also want to keep in mind that if you are heading into a town; there may be others there that you might not want to interact with!
Item 4
Medical supplies are an absolute must! Any medical items you can get your hands on at this point would be a big improvement on what you currently have! Big ticket items like rubbing alcohol, antibiotics or pain relievers are always a solid find! But of course who could leave out any kind of medical supplies really! A hospital would probably be a big time hot zone at this point in time, so it may be best to avoid it. But also at the same time; one might find themselves a very lucky person and get no static from anyone or anything. The choice is yours! Personally if I were to try to take on a hosspital; I would probably want to have a group of people roll in there with me just in case!
Item 5
Fuel could prove to be a valuable asset! If you have secured yourself a vehicle or some kind of generator to run your SHTF shelter, then this is a great find to keep the wheels turning and everybody warm! Fuel could also prove to be a good trade item as well!
Item 6
Batteries are a great find out there! If you have batteries that could give you a one up on the competition! Obviously we know that batteries can be used to power many devices so I won't go into detail there! But I'm not talking just AA and AAA batteries. I'm also talking car batteries! If you managed to prep a vehicle before hand or find one, you may want to snatch a couple extra batteries for you ride!
Item 7
If you have managed to secure a vehicle then you may want to grab vehicle fluids as well. I'm talking oil, coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid or even wiper fluid! Because unfortunately the apocalypse will not stop the fact that your car still needs an oil change and regular maintenance! You may also want to look for things like headlight bulbs and other spare parts! What I'm saying here is; if you are lucky enough to find an Autozone, try to take her for all she's got! Lol.
Item 8
I'm going to go ahead and call these general supplies, because these are just basic house hold items that could help you out! Things such as soap (unscented preferably), cleaning supplies, feminine products and things of this nature are more of a plus item. If you have found that you have what you need it may be time to find some morale boosting items such as these. Because if the team is happy than everyone can better work together!
Item 9
I'll make this the last one! Information is an extremely important thing to "hunt" for! Now I'm not just talking about information on what's going on, but any information in general! Things like vehicle and gun manuals, newspapers, how to books, survival books, cookbooks, maps and so many more things of this nature! Knowledge is power! The more you educate yourself on anything you can, the bigger the advantage you may have. Now on the other hand...Findings another person or group that is friendly enough to tell what they know is a plus! But in my book, that juice is not worth the squeeze. This could have a catastrophic result!
So in conclusion folks; there are many things to hunt for! And not just food either! I'm very sure that there are more things to look for that may not be written here, but I just wanted to share a few with you today! : ) Staying prepared and having a proper plan could prevent you from having to go "hunting" for a while. And for some this may never be something of worry! But if it is something that has to be done, I hope you that you take care in finding what you need!
