Hello Ladies and Gents! Today I was asked by a fellow Steemian to expand on one of my videos and explain how to "Stay Cool" in the summer time! So I will throw a couple things that I know out there! Then I will show you a really cool video that I found at the end! : ) I hope you enjoy!!
So First I will split this bad boy up into two different sections:
Indoors
Solar reflecting curtains or improvise with the ones you put in your car windows. This will have the same effect as it does in your vehicle. It will not take all of the heat out of the equation but it will help.
Top off the first thing on this list and add a blanket over the window. This will help to keep the sunlight out and contain in the area between the blanket and window!
Run fans to keep the A/C from turning on constantly if power bill is your concern.
Sleep with lightweight cotton blankets.
Seal open areas that may leak air to prevent any unnecessary heat flowing into your home!
Have water available for misting your skin!
Dampen a sheet or a towel and wrap yourself up in it!
If available apply ice to wrists, neck, or groin to cool off fast!
Use the lights at a minimal level
Use the stove and oven as little as possible or not at all. You are better off hitting the grill outside for a meal!
Install awnings over your windows!
Build a solar powered home evap cooler! Video posted below! All video credit goes to desertsun02 on YouTube.
Outdoors
Wear light soft cotton clothing! I know we all think silk is the way to be but that is a no go!
Wear a wide brim hat that will cover your face and neck.
Wear a wet bandanna around your head and neck! Wet again when feeling warm!
Stick to the shade as much as possible. It will be slightly cooler here!
Keep water in a spray bottle to mist yourself!
Build awnings or some kind of cover to produce your own shade!
Keep a battery powered fan handy if possible!
DRINK WATER!!! Lots of it! But not too much. : )
Coat your skin in mud or sand/ dirt to act as a sun block and skin coolant!
Alright folks...These are just some methods that I can throw out there for you. Believe me there are probably many more methods I am sure! It is important to keep your body temperature regulated, so know ing way to keep yourself cool can be crucial to your health! Heat stroke is no joke! I just rhymed. Lol. Anyways, keep your self cool and watch this super cool video by YouTuber desertsun02 posted right below! : )
