As soon as they spotted me, they would spring around in wild excitement, forming a lively little crowd around me.

Yes yes yes they recognise you and that happens to me. Those must have been wonderful childhood days, how cool is it that your dad raised ducks!

Do you know that my favourite egg is a duck egg. I used to go and see a neighbour when I was a teenager as she raised ducks and would give me some from time to time.
