It's Sunday and a day of reflections, which is very appropriate as today I am posting some fun pictures that are all about ... yes you guessed it ... Reflections.
The bridge is the West Bridge Street in the Scottish city of Perth.
It is not the first on this site. Records indicate that there have been bridges crossing the River Tay at this location since at least the early 13th century. Previous bridges were often destroyed by the powerful floods of the River Tay. For about 150 years before the current bridge was built, the crossing was done by ferry.
The West Bridge Street bridge is more commonly known as Perth Bridge, or sometimes Smeaton's Bridge after its famous engineer John Smeaton.
The present stone bridge was designed by John Smeaton who was a renowned civil engineer at the time. He is also famous for building the Eddystone Lighthouse. Construction of his bridge began in 1766 and it was completed in 1771.
In 1774, three years after its completion there was a fluffing almighty flood and ice jam which the bridge came through with fluffing flying colours! Well I know I would be fluffing chuffed about that!
As a wee thank you and nod to John Smeaton this post is also for #SublimeSunday is inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by
@ace108.
Well that was about the West Bridge Street bridge which is a fluffing mouthful, no wonder it's called Perth bridge or sometimes Smeaton bridge.
I chose to show you four pictures that I captured with a bus going over it...
Did you notice that I reversed the order of sequence..
Lol I do love to mess with heads.
Yes it's that time for me to choose my entry picture!
Perth Bridge Binoculars
This was a tricky choice.
I am going with this shot that I have dubbed Perth Bridge Binoculars because the focus on the two arches makes it look like a pair of binoculars in my eyes!
I think the other ones were not as clear with half arch spans being included.
I also think this was the best bus reflection and hence best overall reflection shot!
I never know which picture to choose as the entry, and I do try to make a story with my posts rather than just a post and a run kind of thing!!
What do you think? Did I pick the suitable one, or would you have chosen another one?
All images and ramblings are from me, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated. All photos captured with my Google Pixel 9 Pro XL on August 31st 2025 of the West Bridge Street bridge over the River Tay in Perth, Scotland .
