As a newbie, the concept of Hive was not a far-fetched thing. It could be described, basically, as a platform that pays you for the content you created. Yes, that could be the most basic way to describe it. But it is definitely a lot more than just that. Even sticking with that basic definition, there is so much work to be put behind it to achieve even the smallest aim.
One of those key things to make things work on the chain – every user's growth and development both in terms of account and personal life – is Engagement. And here we have

What does engagement on Hive mean to you and how do you do it? What methods or strategies have you used and what results have you had? Do you feel it has been helpful to build your account, have you enjoyed it, or do you feel you'd rather not have to do it?
Engagement on Hive is different from the meaning that connects it to getting married or maybe the proposal first. It is rather the way or measure by which you are in on your activity and establish yourself on the blockchain. For me, one of the activities and basic purposes of Hive is to publish content. Still not just any content but quality ones. Quality in terms of grammar, rich research, the flow of expression, etc.
Engagement is also the way by which we check other authors’ posts, read, digest and then give reasonable comments on what we perceive from their content. In another way, replying to those who give comments to your post/replies and keeping a productive conversation is also part of what it entails too. Reblogs and upvotes of quality content in the little way I can is also a thing for me too.
How do I do it?
I won’t say I have a formula that I follow strictly. Apart from publishing content, I make sure I check an average of 10 posts in a day and give quality comments on them. Ceteris paribus, I do a lot more than that but in a case of illness or something else, it could be as low as 5.
But that is not what I’ll dwell on now. How do I do it? You may ask. As I said, I do not have a formula. There are a number of ways I do my things, at times, I may just look up some users who I have their username off-head and check their recent posts. I may start from my feed or from another person’s blog, I just keep on checking the posts he/she has reblogged and it just goes on!
What Results Have I Had?
The little way I do mine here has really helped me a lot. I have become more knowledgeable about the Hive culture, different things going on under the hood and even making correct friends. An example of under the hood is the DeFi projects developed by the #leofinance team. In terms of reputation, I believe engagements is actually the one making it move because I know I do more comments than posting,
I am still keen on stepping up my games in terms of engagements by exploring more communities and getting into more contests – that will increase my recognition across the chain. Relatively, I believe the rewards I get from engagements are the ones responsible for my account’s growth. For example, when I was very much new on the platform, I do have very few content but I did read and comment on other authors’ posts every day!
And I will continually do engagements with more enthusiasm than before because I really do enjoy it a lot. It is quite interactive in the sense that I get to ask about anything I do not really understand, I’d get to chip in my 2 cents' advice and still get appreciated for it!
