IMO, there's no success in attempting to defeat distress.
You may only:
address it
reduce its impact
and accept it's there
For this I believe ATARAXIA is WHOLENESS.
An encompassing mind achieves equilibrium when such a mind sees equal value in ALL EXPERIENCES.
I agree with your message that dealing with negatives leads to a better you.
However one is still identifying them in category form and granting them emotional language/impact.
You are still maintaining that "file" and giving it authority within you to dominate you. Because your focus was on the pain it caused. So internally you've made that YOURS.
This is the thing of humans..
LOVE, SUFFERING is at each end of the spectrum of human existence but to our being.. the two are equal because experience is what we deep down seek.
Which is why some hang on to their pain and OWN IT (in a bad way).
And by this we are still prone to it snowballing IF a future event triggers a memory or the experience comes at a time when we have an overload of sorts. Emotional or otherwise.
So for that, I see ATARAXIA as a good base.
Because it doesn't mean you no longer can be human. The opposite is true. Because the things, experiences, people etc that move you. Get your full focus and humanity.
And that which bothers you..
Doesn't go unnoticed.
You instinctively analyse it as it happens.
Rather than after when your.. "crying" about it.
In doing this you are essentially ALWAYS logically aware before you emotionally react.
It's a great state of mind. IMO
