The truth is there are different kind of person's we encounter in our journey of life, sterming from our immediate family to the family we make for ourselves through friendship and the likes.
I have heard of situations where someone's biological mother pushed her out into the world even as a teenager to provide for them... I don't need to say it because you can imagine. Now in this scenario, the mom derive more financial benefit from her daughter.
I have always asked myself so many times about this question, do they care about me or they just care about how useful i am to them?, and it usually comes after i have helped someone with money or given them advice or showed up for someone.
The truth is that, we actually move or gravitate towards people who can add value to our life in a relationship and this even happens within siblings.
I have been in a friend circle where alot of the times, just one particular friend pays bills when they go out, has money to solve some certain issues that comes up, which is not a bad thing until we discovered most of them are just using her because of financial gain.
I remember in my university days, most of my coursemates has cars, some are very good with certain courses, this makes most of us cling onto those group of person's, that does not make me evil to seek support or safety or to benefit generally from them but atleast I appreciate their effort by buying snacks and thanking them for their generosity.
I feel like, in all of these, the problem actually starts when we begin to look at just what we can gain, alot of times, the moment you stop bringing value to them, like giving money, time and whatever it may be, they end up forming too busy for you.
During my university days, I was very good with taking notes in class, my notes where always upto date, there is is friend that usually get close to me anytime she knows we are approaching examination period and backs away from me after the exams. Maybe her intentions where never to be my friend but i always felt hurt when she behaves as if she does not know me at all.
When I know I'm being used, it feels like rejection as if I'm an object not an actual person. I will tell you that I'm also guilty of this, either I'm doing it knowingly or unknowingly. I just feel at the end of the day, alot of person's tend to care about what they will get from you, but if I see someone who genuinely appreciate me and still values what I can offer that is the real gold in friendship that I will cherish forever.
