Exploring the grounds around the Oliewenhuis art museum in Bloemfontein South Africa.
Another lovely day enjoyed to the fullest with misshugo@misshugo I'm blessed to experience all of these lovely adventures with her. Looking forward to more adventures with you misshugo@misshugo.

After tackling some unfinished work during the morning hours we both decided to do some exploring that was much needed, hence the Covid-19 situation that unexpectedly struck the world we didn't do much exploring for about a solid three years.

We had a lot of uncertainty as to where we wanted to go, then misshugo@misshugo remembered that the University of the Free State held an architectural exhibition at the Oliewenhuis art museum. Without much delay we quickly got everything together, made a little plan as to what we want to see and what we want to experience.

In today's post I will share a few photos of the art surrounding the museum, old wooden carvings, statues, a lost herd of sheep and a few nice views.

The Devil's Advocate

Okay so this is not really the devil's advocate, although by the looks of it with the viking like helmut, the bikers goggles mixed up with the high heeled shoes blowing her trumpet of war it might as well be devils mistress.

Now I am very confused as to why they would add the net over the swimming pool, I do understand it's for safety. But messing up a beautiful art piece like this?
Notice the step she takes? We humans should be more like that, you know stepping into the unknown and making the best of it!

The Oliewenhuis Art Museum

Indeed what a beautiful historic piece of art and iconic location in Bloemfontein its a very old building but maintained to the fullest. It has a lot of rich history wrapped around it. It's also situated next to the presidential house.

Roots overgrowing the iron fences for years now giving an antique feeling with the rusty bell and rusted iron rods of the fence. I wonder what they used the bell for back in the day?

Wood Carved Tales

By the looks of it, it appears that a tree simple fell over dead right there and someone grabbed a chisel and started carving their stories and imaginations on it. I forgot to round back to it to get closer photos of the carvings on it, but believe me it took some time and effort creating this tree telling story.

One of the carvings on the tree, almost like a demonized dragon twisted and reformed by the imagination of the artist. I am sure to return again some day for the rest of those stories.

The Wandering Sheep

Now as to why these sheep are placed here kind of boggles my mind. I will have to do some digging, but I am assuming its some kind of memorial or remembrance. One of the sheep has a tag on the ear stating the date where it was butchered for meat, with that said I am assuming that there was a food shortage during the Boer war of South Africa and someone most likely donated the last of their livestock to the Boer Commando in those years.

Tag states.

It must have been a livestock donation that actually made a huge difference in the war against the English forces back in the 1900's

The Journey Up The Hill

Once me and misshugo@misshugo finished our thorough exploration around the main building being fat with satisfaction, seeing what we wanted, taking in the beautiful views and enjoying the laughter of a wedding going on we started our second adventure making our way up the hill behind Oliewenhuis to do some more sight seeing.

Yes the town of Bloemfontein is mainly flat with not a lot of tall buildings, experiencing a view from above the town was something we both haven't seen in... Hmmmm perhaps a couple of years? I was left in amazement at how beautiful it actually is.

They call it the "Platteland" in my native language which roughly translates to flat lands, But the correct term I believe for the more American or European side of the world that would be the countryside.

Peak The Fake Observatory

Whilist climbing the hill out I wanted to snapshot more photos of the town but the foilage was to much and all around me. Only being able to snapshot some photos here and there I got a peak of the observatory and decided well why not? Even though its a fake observatory I would still like to visit it sometime and get educated on the great outer space. I guess it's a story for another adventure.

The beautiful and mysterious misshugo@misshugo smiling for a photo.
After having a splendid experience at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum we slowly drifted down the "Palm Road" planning on where we can drink a milkshake or smoothie after experiencing the first REAL hot day after the frosty winter days.

P.S. we decided on a smoothie. She had a Berry Breeze while myself picked the Mango Orange.

Stay tuned for an upcoming post about the artwork inside the museum.

Sharing my life experience on the Hive blockchain is a great pleasure for me to do, I have been on the hive blockchain since the days of steemit, I only recently rediscovered this blockchain and I completely forgot what a blast it was sharing my everyday life and its happenings with the blockchain and its community's. I want to give a big thanks to all of the supporters out there making the blockchain great and adding value to it everyday.

Once again your feedback would be highly valued and appreciated.
