Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!
It's Coming In Pairs Again!
What is with this where things like to come in to the shop in pairs?
We got this DCT 250 transmission yesterday and on this day I brought mine own to work as well since we have clutches available at our suppliers!
Yeah finally after three months I've been able to locate a clutch! Dangit!
Okay well this one isn't mine! Mine won't ever be so dirty! Laughs who am I kidding I drive a dirt road! But seriously I do try and keep mine own clean!
Let's see what she's hiding!
The Delicates!
As always with these transmissions we absolutely have to remove all of these little delicate parts first! Even the clutch and even though we wont be re-using it. Might be the client changes his mind and then we went ahead and buggered up the clutch!
That wont be good now will it?
This transmission does in fact have a bunch of delicate stuff! The TCM, the wiring harness, the actuators, the clutch itself, the clutch forks!
All of them are delicate and yes even the clutch forks!
Pop It Open!
Well not much left to do than crack the casings right?
Split them might be a better word, laughs!
Now if you don't know what beautifull is, be at peace because you will see momentarily!
Eye Blinding Beauty!
Yeah yeah Okay!
I know I'm the only one out there that would like how a Ford transmission is built! Mayhaps I like it so much because I have the exact same one!
Okay but jokes aside it is beautifull because of how well designed it is!
There are only three small bolts holding one shaft together, the rest of basically everything is held in place by the casings!
You can pull out almost everything with the hand! Comfort? Oh hell yes!
That Pesky One Of Three!
Oh boy oh boy!
Can you see it? Can you even see it?
Well the spanner is over the little head of the bolt but damned it's a crappy little bolt!
The getting it out is not the problem guys! It's the getting it back in that is the problem! Heck! What we usually do is we take half the bolt away!
Oh yes we do!
The Least Effort Possible.
Once you get those three bolts removed it's pretty straight forward from there onwards!
Giving the input shaft just a little nick with the copper hammer should make everything pop out and roll out!
Once the three bolts are out, all of the shafts plus the differential inside will be able to come out of place! That is why I like these builds so much, it's easier to work with!
Until the next one stay safe and most of all stay Blessed!
Take note this is not a how to guide, merely myself talking about the work I do and my thoughts around certain things.
To everyone who made it this far into my post Thank you for the read and the support.
