Today, technology is embedded in our everyday lives and its hard to imagine a world without it, but what does the future hold?

There will always be incremental improvements in technology every day, but once in a while, there is something that changes the way we live, such as the Smartphone, the internet, air travel, cars, and more recently Smart home technology such as the google home, amazon dot, and other such devices.

So here are my top picks for 5 future technologies that could change your life.

5 – Hyperloop.

When we saw the first episode of Futerama, we thought that the ''Tube Transport System'' was preposterous. But it wasn't as far fetched as some may think.
Another invention from the Space X entrepreneur, Elon Musk, the Hyperloop looks very reminiscent to Futuramas interpretation. Still in its testing phase, the Hyperloop will send 'Pods' inside a tube that is at a near vacuum, travelling at speeds in excess of 700Mph and at only a few millimetres of the rails using a maglev system. It is currently still in its testing phase, but Elon is hoping to have a fully functional line by 2020.
this new tech could revolutionise how we travel long distances in a very short amount of time.

4 – Driverless Cars.

Cars have been around for over 140 years, but they haven't changed in terms of how to control them, Gas, Break steering wheel. Yes the engines and shapes all change but we are still the in control.
There are quite a few companies now, including Google and Tesla that are designing and testing prototype driverless cars that takes the human equation out of it.
While some people, like myself enjoy driving, most other people see it as a chore they would rather not do or are too busy. Driverless cars could take the headache out of driving for those people, letting them finish their morning routines while on the way to work, or let you speak to fellow passengers without having to worry about crashing. The App firm Uber could also benefit from this as they would no longer have to pay drivers a percentage. Think Johnny Cab from the original Total Recall film.

3 – AI Robotics.

with the rise of Quantum computing, AI is becoming better and better with each passing moment. The biggest AI is Googles Quantum Computing AI that handles most of googles mapping technology among other things.
We all have seen basic AI in some form or another, the most popular one is Siri, but can now be found smart home tech like google home or Alixa from Amazon.
Bipedal robotics has come along way and there are many companies that create, experiment with and produce for military application which is set to hit the consumer market within the next 5 years.
Sophia is the most advanced robot/android with a very sophisticated learning AI which you can have a full conversation with, has been given citizenship in the UAE and interacts with people from all around the world on a daily basis. There is plans to give Sophia her own body so that she can be fully autonomous. So you can guarantee it wont be long after before we see androids everyday, helping from in the home to medical, industrial and technological industries.

2 – 3D Printing.

Yes 3d printing has been around for a short while now but hear me out. While we can use 3d printing today as a tool for design work or model making, the future of 3d printing could be boundless.
Currently there is development into biological 3d printing using live matter. Imagine for a moment that you need a skin graft or a new ear after a bad burn... all you would have to do is fire up a printer and print a new section of skin or a new ear. While it is not at that level yet, medical research is ongoing into that possibilities.
There are also 3d printers being designed to be sent to Mars to build shelters for when the first humans set foot on the planet.
There is a lot more research going into the development of 3d printing. Imagine printing up a new car part, functional weapons from a metallic/ceramic composite, recreate art from clay, print out medical items. there is even research into printing windows, glass, mirrors and windscreens. And there are plenty more uses for it.

1 – The Singularity.

Another brainchild of Elon Musk, this technology would allow us to upload and download data direct into our brains.
There is a lot of debate about the implications of such technology and how it could benefit mankind or what to do with such power. Imagine you know you are going to die from a terminal disease. What if you could simply upload your mind into an AI android and live on? Or you want to become a pilot but don't want to go to school to learn, you could simply download the knowledge and be able to fly straight away, how will you know you wouldn't crash on your first flight?
Sounds like something from the films transcendence or the Matrix. Well you wouldn't be far off. Neuralink is a company set up by Elon Musk to work on interfacing technology with the human brain with the goal of improving brain function and eventually to the point where data could be uploaded or downloaded into the brain.
Its a technology that is only just starting to be investigated seriously and has succeeded to the point that smart prosthetics can now be controlled by the mind. But that is after some intensive learning by both the computer and patient. A far cry from uploading your mind, but a start non the less.

new technologies can be a good thing, but ones like AI and the singularity poses a lot of ethical questions and debate. Thanks to Hollywood showing how bad things can become if new tech comes to fruition and a history of suppression and ignorance within our own society. New tech has a long way to go before it will become normal everyday occurrences.

Thanks for reading.
