as part of my life as a brand advocate i got to travel and spend time in some pretty rad airbnb places, i’ll try and dig through the archives and share some of them with you and some of the experiences to come along the way
amsterdam is cool, super sharp lines, amazing fast food when ya stoned, places to smoke weed if that’s your thing, art coming out of it’s backside and amazing travel connections that are often right on time. it’s super badass and i love the dutch, the dutch just get shit done, take for instance. he’s a bad ass organiser of all things steemfest (please universe get me there this year!)
of course amsterdam is more than the smoking of weed but as a teenager it was like the mecca of all things for a smoker to visit. i’ve visited amsterdam at least ten times in my lifetime because flights are so cheap from the uk and your literally in the air for about ten minutes before we start to descend again. it’s pretty sweet.
today i wanna show you the place we stayed in rotterdam, if i remember rightly it was about twenty minutes (felt like it) away from amsterdam and i love rotterdam more than i did amsterdam, the central station in rotterdam is incredible and just the vibe and the food and the people and places made is something incredible - in another life i was a spy and i lived in rotterdam as my basecamp, honestly, you gotta see rotterdam in your lifetime it’s amazing. again, i LOVE the dutch.

yep, believe it or not when we did an event a few years ago over in rotterdam as part of an audience development event we managed to stay in the cube houses as part of an airbnb. the host was awesome and it was so easy to get too, we just had to get a train to the blaak train station and boom you come up and it’s there.
depending on what day/time you arrive there used to be a market there as well and i’m not sure if it’s on anymore but has simply moved inside of this beast, is that not amazing. it’s real, i wanted to buy a flat there. like i said, in another world i would have the sports almanac from back to the future in crypto currency and i would be a playboy and a spy who solves corporate hack mysteries around europe.
this is what you can expect to see there now, it’s an indoor market but with flats around it and above it. can you imagine how awesome that would be to drop downstairs in the early morning to get all the fresh fruit and foods before you started your day (ahem) as a spy. the best.. .
you can see the cube houses at the bottom of the picture, this whole area in rotterdam blaak is awesome, if your going to amsterdam you should really jump on a train to rotterdam and check it out for the day, so much to see and do around there including the docks. .
pretty rad right? the design of the building makes it feel like your flat is upside down, the angles are crazy and the window arrangement below are crazy.
it has these awesome spiral staircases, you really need to go slow here because health and safety is not present in these places, you don’t wanna be drunk in here.
let their be light (and little privacy) seriously, it’s got so much light and i loved it, it had a really nice energy about the building.
pretty rad stairs thou if you ask me. i certainly felt like the dude from blade runner staying here.
yes, absolutely yes, i could totally see myself living here and blogging from here while i saw the world go by my window. you have tram access nearby as well so you just jumped on the tram, also a lovely little dock area.
when your flat is a funny shape you have to think creatively about where your going to store and put stuff. luckily the designers have you covered.
concrete floors with the usual awesome dutch styling. i love it.
the suicide windows, even opening them felt weird because you had to lean down to open them, they had supports and locks of course but i think if i fell on them full force i’d fall a long way down. kinda scary.
you ever seen the film beetlejuice, it kinda made me think of that a little bit.
the kitchen was super functional (like dutch stuff is) and made me feel like i was flying the enterprise of food areas. it was pretty damn rad.
night time the place just transformed (yes like a transformer) it felt like, it blended into the night and this borg cube shaped upside down flat almost vanished into the night whereas you can see all life below. super cool.
