The power of words!

As an English teacher, there are some keys point that I want to state in my post today. Speaking a new language, which is English in my case doesn't mean that you are a perfect teacher. No matter how good you are at speaking the language that you are supposed to teach, it is more important to know what to do with students who are looking at you with high expectation in their minds and hearts.

In this post, I would like to talk about some essential points. First of all, a good teacher must be able to play with words. Students may not have the motivation which is needed to learn a new language. That's why, teachers should lighten their students with the importance of motivation and remind them that every second they pass inside and outside the class is important part of their learning process.

Be Clear!

A language teacher should know that students are not as good as their teacher when the topic is speaking a language. Therefore, giving them clear instructions is really important. If you want your students to advance in their learning process efficiently, it is a must to lead them with clear and simple directions.

In addition to giving directions, it is also an important duty of a teacher to be creative in teaching grammar or new vocabulary. Learning a new thing, especially a new language is not an easy task for new learners. That's why, teachers need to give lots of clear and simple examples while teaching grammar rules and vocabulary in classroom.

Using Target Language!

Some teachers still make the same mistake which is teaching the language in students' mother tongue. To make it clear, I can't teach English by speaking Turkish with my students. They will never understand how things are working in a new language. That's why, it is important for me to speak English and help them to get exposed to language all the time.

Speaking the target language is not enough at all. If a teacher speaks in classroom all the time without any pauses at all, it means that students are not involved in learning at all which is terrible. Teacher should be able to encourage students to express themselves in the target language. To sum up this part, it is crucial for both teachers and students to use the target language as much as possible.

Creativity!

Teaching requires creativity. Explaining some grammar rules or reading solely do not mean anything for your students. As long as you are interesting and creative in your material and teaching methods, your students will get benefit from your teaching and become more eager students who are full of desire to use the language they are learning.

Learning occurs best through activities. It is an important part of teaching a new language. Our biggest helpers in this issue are groups and pair works. People who are interested in becoming experienced teachers should keep one thing in mind that more activities bring more success in class. As long as you come out with new ideas in classroom, things will get better for your students.
